sermonette: Faith's Obedience

Abraham and Isaac
Martin G. Collins
Given 31-May-09; Tape #941As; 19 minutes

Description: (hide)

Martin Collins, reflecting on Abraham's offering of Isaac, suggests that the entire event demonstrated sterling obedience, action and faith. Faith requires obedience; the two are inseparable. If we do not obey we do not have faith and we do not believe. The sacrifice of Isaac (a type of Christ"s sacrifice) was a test of Abraham's faith. Realizing that God could resurrect his only son Isaac from the dead, Abraham reckoned Isaac as already dead. When God realized that Abraham would not withold his only son, He provided a ram for sacrifice, knowing that Abraham had attained total trust in God's sovereignty and providence. As we provide our monetary offerings, we also follow the obedience, action, and faith formula.
